Or a good ear lick. Years ago my spouse and I brought a kitten home. For three days he snarled and hissed and spat at our dog. Finally on the third day the dog came up to him in the kitchen and the kitten flopped on the floor belly-up. “I give up! Do with me what you will!” he seemed to say. Our dog sniffed his belly then licked his ears.
They were best friends after that.
