Electro-swing: glitchy, jazzy, uptempo music

Thnks 4 da cue. HRD2BLV IDK this is a thing. hearts

I came across Caravan Palace via Rdio a few months ago. Their song Star Scat was what caught my ear. The video is not an official one, but worth checking out. Long intro though - jump to 1:00 to hear the actual song.

Yowza! Thank you for my new musical obsession!

I was listening to Gotan Project as I read your reply. Iā€™m going to check out your mix immediately. Thanks for the list.

Reddit had a ā€œname some good electroswingā€ post hit the front page a little while back. It is here. There is a pretty solid play list on Google Music here.

Personally, I love the stuff. I have even hit up a few electroswing nights and had a great time out dancing. The only real problem with electroswing is that as a genera, it isnā€™t all that deep. Hit an electroswing night a few times and you will start to recognize all of the songs.

ā€¦reminds me of Tipsy:

Space Golf
Oops

Electro-swing: Hm. Daughter of a friend has been doing competitive swing dancing. I should make sure she knows about this stylistic fusion.

I found myself thinking that Bazā€™ Gatsby could have benefitted at times from this.

By the way, in case anyone had a high-school English teacher who waxed lyrical about symbolism in The Great Gatsby: The reason the light is green is because, when you look across the water from Great Neck to Port Jefferson, that light IS green. Nothing more than that.

Dont spend much time in the genre, but do love Swing Bop (Tanz Variante) by Der Dritte Raum. Mainly because itā€™s a swing remix of their trance classic Hale Bopp from 1998.

I found Caravan Palace a while back and thought it was a weird but cool one-off thing. And then the nuts & candy shop across the plaza from my office was playing Parov Stelar, so I had to pick that up too.

Now youā€™re just encouraging what has become a habitā€¦

Thanks for all the amazing reccos, folks! I think this is my new music quota for the next month or two!

Now that I poke at things a bit, Der Dritte Raum strikes me as really cool. More on the electro side of electro-swing, but still it, um, means a thing I guess.

The Hotel Costes CDs are phenomenal. Thereā€™s something like 15 of them now and theyā€™re packed with awesome loungey music shot through with electro-funk. I spend whole days with those on as the soundrack of my lifeā€¦

Youā€™ll like this one then: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETAKCFtgYTI

Is there anything in this genre with a darker/harder edge?

Thatā€™d be a cool juxtaposition, IMO

As many above have said, ā€œif you like that, youā€™re gonna love theseā€ (this one is from Gramatik:)

Aaaaand hereā€™s a little number on a more restrained, but remarkable inventive swing note, with some amazing climbs and harmony

Or you may enjoy something a little more obscure!

Iā€™ll leave you with a couple of more minimal classic Chicago faves from the early 90s!

If there is better vacuuming the house music, I donā€™t know what it is!

Yay, electroswing! Couple of recommendations:

Parov Stelarā€™s the guy who started it all, and his songs are fantastic. Try ā€˜The Snakeā€™ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKWE8duRsYw)

The Correspondents are wonderful, particularly live; try Fear and Delight (which has a fantastic video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABS-mlep5rY), Cheating with You, and the brilliant What Happened to Soho?

JFB does more dubstep-heavy electroswing; try Swing Bum: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BMyA6_oi28)

Lastly, I donā€™t know if Molotov Jukeboxā€™s Donā€™t Panic ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bJqNR0nrUE) really counts as electroswing, but itā€™s got the right attitude. The singer is Natalia Tena, who plays Tonks in the Harry Potter movies and Osha in Game of Thronesā€¦

Funny how this suddenly becomes a thing ā€¦ I was equally clueless and just by chance I came across my old Koop record, did a wiki on Koop, where they are classified as Electro Jazz, I searched that on youtube ā€¦ and voila, I get Electro Swing / Swazz and the like ā€¦ my 9 year old especially like when they mix in the Angry Birdsā€™ tune

I would recommend NĆ“ze. The whole album is fantastic.
