Interview with Trump supporters: his presidency would be "classy"

Are you saying that Donald Trump is the American Johnny Fartpants?

I agree. Chris Rock said about Robin Williamsā€™ suicide that every comedian knows people who have killed themselves - 85% of a comedianā€™s job is just to notice things and there are a lot of bad things out there to notice. Itā€™s pretty obvious that a lot of comedians actually care deeply about the problems they observe, and I definitely think Carlin did. Sometimes we have to make reality a joke just to be able to stand it.

If you gaze long into the abyssā€¦

Donald Trump genuinely reminds me of Dick Solomon, but without the excuse of being an alien from outer space.

239 loose nuts believe that thereā€™s a wholesale slaughter of white people going on in the US?? Like, how, with cars and heart disease and prescription drug abuse?

Christ, Iā€™ve heard of some stupid conspiracy theories before, but this one takes the gold in the Burning Stupid Olympics.

Thereā€™s a lot more than 239 neo-nazis in the US, Iā€™m sure. They believe that civil rights for black America is tantamount to eugenics.

Really, itā€™s a lot of projection by white supremacists. Everything their literal and ideological kin has done to another, for every time they think about lynching someone else, they cry that such behaviors are happening to them.

Itā€™s rhetoric to prop up privitization of various services.

Oh, Iā€™m well aware of how much political ā€œconservativesā€ such as white supremacists commit psychological projection. It seems to be baked into protestant Christianity and a clear symptom of authoritarian worship.

And the selling off of public goods/works/land to benefit both the politicians and the corporate ā€œpersonsā€ with the most speech and value to Capitalist America.

Probably more that theyā€™re drawn to Christianity because it fits their authoritarian needs than becoming an authoritarian because of Christianity, but yes! Agreed.

I agree that that is why the Trumps of the world promulgate the idea. Itā€™s the working class people who repeat it as if itā€™s a self-evident truism that Iā€™m concerned with.

Only if you believe that to be true and actually said why.

Assume that your comments are welcome but that not everyone agrees with you, this means that when offering your opinion also offer the reasons for having said opinions.
When presenting something as a fact, be prepared to offer evidence, if you donā€™t have evidence, then its opinion, see above.
Before posting, re-read your post and make sure it says what you mean to say, this doesnā€™t always happen on the very first draft.

Whyā€™s that?

Iā€™m a socialist too. Iā€™d happily embrace a European model Democratic Socialist government where people had healthcare, education, and some guaranteed quality of life.

I think a big reason why I really love Lewis Blackā€™s comedy is because Iā€™m a filthy socialist, too.

I donā€™t know how happy everyone in those countries are happy with their government. But I just canā€™t ever see the US getting their shit together that even if they had similar laws it working well. I canā€™t see how a person who thinks a majority of people in government are incompetent fools at best is suddenly going to do a better job with different programs in place.

Every. Single. Time. I have to interact with the government - court, DMV, IRS, etc - I walk away convince the asylum inmates are in control.

Yet strangely, other countries manage. I guess Americans are just inferior and stupid?

Hereā€™s Gallupā€™s 2013 paper on the issue:

tl:dr; People in northern European socialist countries trust their governments an awful lot more than people do in the US. You can find data on perceptions of corruption, reported happiness, etc. All of it points to people who live in socialist countries agreeing that their governments are doing pretty well and people who live in the US thinking that their governments are awful.

I think it works like this: When the government actually looks after the interests of the people in the country (socialism), people like and trust them. When the government treats the people with contempt and throws them the occasional lower tax bone while it hands over the wealth of the nation to the already mega-rich (US-style crony capitalism) people donā€™t like and donā€™t trust them. Itā€™s not that weird to complain about the latter while longing for the former.

Yes. Probably.

The phrase is ā€œlearned helplessnessā€. This goes doubly for the representatives who state that government canā€™t possibly do anything right, then inevitable prove so after elected.
