Stunning aerial photos of San Francisco salt flats

Huh. I had no idea.

Don’t they look different if you wear polarized sunglasses?

One of the things about this area - no matter where the thing is, someone will describe it as being in San Francisco.

Just a few pedantic points:

  • Of the three major cities surrounding San Francisco Bay, the smallest one is… San Francisco.
  • The Bay is 50 miles long. That’s longer than the distance between Washington, DC and Baltimore, but a geographic feature outside Baltimore is not referred to as being in Washington.
  • There are no salt flats in San Francisco. They are located in the southern end of the bay, in the areas of Mountain View, San Jose/Alviso, and Newark.
  • Look at them while you can, because they are being restored to wetlands.
