Unseen World War I photos: German Trenches

Well done, Mr. Putney!

Dr. Marvin Thomas (http://www.upb.pitt.edu/faculty.aspx?id=3928) has a similarly massive collection of inherited WWII photos, most of which were taken during the ill-fated Unternehmen Barbarossa (“Codename Redbeard”) assault on Russia.

I’ve never kickstarted anything before, but this needs to be published. I always find the portraits to be more moving than photos of the conflict itself, especially when you can see the same people in multiple photographs and catch some of their personality.

Incidentally, it’s got to take some guts to do aerial reconnaissance from a hot air balloon.
