Virginia braces for gay marriage

Momentum is looking good. We’ve got to be damn near 50% of the U.S. population living in states that allow gay marriage now.

At one time I would have said fifty-percent of the population living in states with marriage equality would be the tipping point, but now I think of it as a purely symbolic number. Polls consistently show that more than fifty-percent of the population either approves or doesn’t care. As marriage equality has spread more and more people realize it doesn’t affect them, unless they happen to be the ones getting married. And the growing acceptance undermines the favorite argument of the opposition: that the “will of the people” is being ignored.
