How in the hell did the reporter stay quiet when it was happening… is that just good training? Jeez. I guess I could never be a reporter; I’d be too busy cursin’ like mad.
Unless we know how many gallons per hour it was using, 4 mpg tells us nothing about the train’s speed.

And 4 mpg is remarkably good mileage for a train!
Although they are extremely efficient- according to one freight company, a train can move a ton of freight more than 400 miles per gallon of fuel it burns- they’ll be carrying many hundreds of tons of freight, so burning fuel at a rate of gallons per mile.
