I read this somewhere recently on the intertubes, and maybe it explains the divisiveness, or just part of it.

If a thing came into the world before you were 15 years old, it’s not even remarkable, it’s just the way the world is.

If a thing came into the world between the time you were 15 and 35, it’s new and exciting. You might end up earning your living in some way related to that thing.

If a thing comes into the world after you are 35, it’s confusing. You’re probably skeptical about it.

If a thing comes into the world after you’re 55, it’s some combination of dangerous, disgusting, depraved, or demonic. It ought to be illegal. Anybody who likes, or even refuses to outright reject the thing is not just wrong or misinformed. They are stupid, ugly and evil besides.
