A survival guide for living in The Simulation

The premise as stated is pretty dumb, no argument. But this thread has given me a fresh insight on using as a metaphor (nothing more!) for self-reinforcing belief systems. Anything can be a simulated reality, once the believer shuts down evidence to the contrary! Capitalism, Catholicism, Transhumanism… you name it.

But I think that seeing myself as a nonplayer character in these people’s delusional game, kind of lets me off the hook for setting them straight. Once folks are hooked on that kool-aid, they’re not coming back til they’re done.

Three points come to mind as I awaken:

  1. Reality is whatever bites your ass. If it affects you, it’s real; if not, it’s irrelevant.

  2. I forget the label for the area of philosophy whose adepts debate whether they exist and if so, why.

  3. Paraphrasing Clarke: Any sufficiently advanced simulation is indistinguishable from reality and vice-versa. See #1.
