They’ve come close - I recall in 1992-1993, as a freshman in college a friend was in Houghton MI at MTU and emailed “horray! it stopped snowing!”, then mentioned it was because (at least from there westward) Superior froze over and turned off the lake effect machine. A week or more of sub-zero-F fun. That’s when I learned to really enjoy splashing through a foot of snow, in shorts under the blue sky, in Golden CO. Those lakes are nice to visit but I don’t miss living near them all year long…
