Or it could have been something else - once saw a container of kerosene fall off the back of a truck going around a curve and splatter all over the road. The pavement coloration and angle of the sun was such that you couldn’t even tell it was wet! I saw it happen and braked hard and swung wide/high to keep two wheels on the dry before going through it gently. Saw a few folks behind me completely lose it though.
