I think it’s hard not to acknowledge the crisis in both countries, and I don’t think it’s a competition. I’m on board with the point that Canadians need to not pat themselves on the back for being better than the US. Being better than the US on racism is not something to be proud of.
Thunder Bay is not a good place to be indigenous.
In any case, even though racism is clearly linked to police killings, it also clearly can’t explain the much higher rate of police killings in the US. I think to explain that you need to accept that the US just has a culture that is far more likely to accept killings as justified in general.
