Unfortunately, the flip side of this is that red states like Wyoming were also the ones that refused federal money for Medicaid expansion and in many cases directly eliminated aid for pregnant and nursing people, which led directly to the cratering of maternity and post-partum outcomes in what were already the deadliest states for mothers.
And as awful as that map currently looks, 11 of the states that did adopt the expansion only did so ca. 10 years after the ACA became law and really only because of the pandemic. You can easily imagine what their maternal healthcare stats look like compared to states that aren’t run by evil idiots.
