An important, elegant thought experiment on content moderation regulation

My mom is on Bookface. My wife is on Yourspace. My best friend is on G-minus. Which service do I sign up for? Can I even sign up for any of them, if they hit their cap? You might only need to talk to 50 people, but how do you actually connect to those 50 people, if they’re all on different services?

“Anyone can still syndicate their own content”

…you understand what that means, right?

The only reason walled gardens have walls, is because the service providers enact policies to keep you inside. But those are not physical rules of nature. We could change those rules. You could get postings from all those individuals, without belonging to their services, because they will have made their posts available for syndication. But for it to happen, people have to know it’s an option.
