I’m assuming you meant million. Justice league had a production budget of it least $300. And it’s rumored to have cost significantly more thanks to production delays, reshoots, And mustaches. There is almost no way that movie didn’t lose money. And DC is apparently specifically panicked about the results and looking to alter their plans on the face of what’s broadly considered their biggest failure yet.
Like previous DCEU movies (except Wonder Woman). It’s theater run was cut short. After initial opening (some of them quite big) there’s a rapid drop off in ticket sales so these movies have been rapidly moved out of theaters. More recent movies have opened on fewer screens. Like previous movies it was critically panned. Like previous movies it’s ratings on user review sites are really low. The popular conversation about it is mostly making fun (except Wonder Woman and Aquaman). That mustache is the biggest meme to come out of it. There are reports of massive piles of unsold toys and merch. And I’ve seen them with mine own eyes. Discount racks loaded with Stephen Wolf figures and flash masks. Each DC sequel has made less money than the proceeding one (except Wonder Woman). Their biggest box office numberstill never crossed the coveted billion dollar mark.
A good number of people are going to see these movies. Asses are hitting seats, especially outside the US. Though far fewer than when man of steel and Batman vs Superman electric murder dance opened. But it’s largely just during opening weekends and people just don’t seem too happy about what they’re seeing.
It’s not that they didn’t fulfill my hopes. It’s that they dangled something potentially very interesting. And nothing comparably interesting turned up. I’d have been plenty happy with something totally different. Something wildly different from existing Aquaman. Something closer to any given comics or cartoon version of Aquaman. Provided they did something interesting with it. Something thought out. As it is it looks like they think “Jason Momoa is Aquaman” is enough.
Which yeah that’s nice. But you gotta have more of an idea than that.
