I think you’ve misunderstood. I honestly don’t think the intent of any of these is to actively mock.
Rather, some of these groups have decided to borrow the singing and clapping that’s associated with churches because they would just like to sing and clap, without any need for God.
To others, the idea of singing and clapping outside of a church may seem like “making a mockery out of the way people in religious churches choose to celebrate their faith.”
Me, I’d be in the “feeling awkward” crowd, because I have no interest in singing and clapping to James Taylor. But I’m all into communities of interesting people, so I see this kind of thing as a step in the right direction.
