Authorities hunting for mystery person who repaired a large pothole

A section of Detroit’s Jefferson Ave runs right alongside Lake St Clair, in the uberwealthy Grosse Pointe suburbs. Back in the 70s-80s, an unresolved and long dragged out dispute over whether county or state funds would be used to repair Jefferson’s plethora of potholes led to the further proliferation of potholes. A group of rich local ladies purchased some asphalt and road cones. They went out on Jefferson in their gardening clothes, with trowels and buckets, and began filling potholes. It made headlines. Somebody immediately came thru with funding, and Jeff was V quickly and thoroughly repaired.
