Battlestar Galactica: the search for Universals' Sci-Fi film franchise

In the 1978 series the emphasis was on the exodus. In the 2004 series the emphasis was on the 9/11-style event. I’m not sure how it would work as a series of movies today. A journey takes time a movie doesn’t have, and 9/11 was a young moviegoer’s lifetime ago. You could make the first one disaster porn, but how do you follow that up?

I would prefer to see new movies, if they are made, be drawn from the refugee experience. Make the initial conflict last years, not a day. Have some life on other planets they encounter, as in the original series, but with the grit of the re-imagined series.
