So is Yew, a tree with beautiful grain, and every part of the tree is toxic, apart from the bright red soft outer covering of the seeds, which is actually edible.
Doesn’t stop craftsmen working with it, or making one of the most lethal weapons used in battle, the British yew warbow; ask the French mounted knights at Agincourt.
There wouldn’t be ‘serfs’ working with such timber, they would be craftsman and carpenters.
