I’ve got an old house too… I love the new LED bulbs, because they put less current on my late stone age wiring.
Some of my friends have had good experiences with blown insulation in the walls, and I hope to eventually put a pale-colored metal roof on mine with 24" of foam sprayed on the underside. In my area that’ll eventually pay for itself in reduced heating and cooling bills.
