Depends what you mean by “regular bike”. If you’re wealthy enough that your regular bike comes from a specialist bicycle shop, and you can easily lift it with one arm, then that’s sort of plausible. If you’re not, and your bike is a simple heavy mass produced steel clunker bought at your local cheap department store, then not even close.

The price differential between these two markets can be a factor of 10. The success of bike nirvana’s like the Netherlands isn’t built on expensive light fast bikes from bike shops. It’s built on the majority of the able-bodied citizens having a simple cheap clunker which they are happy to leave chained to a bike rack while they do their grocery shopping.

I hated the e-scooters in Stockholm and in Oxford (UK). They go so fast for no effort, and weave in and out of all the other traffic including bikes and pedestrians. My view is that in the UK, we’ve not managed in over 100 years to integrate cars, bikes and pedestrians safely, so why do we need to have another intermediate type of transport thrown into the mix?

Paris got rid of their e-scooters earlier this year. It’s become a big cycling town, thanks to restrictions on cars and improved bike friendly infrastructure. It helps that central Paris is relatively small.

Looks like he’s riding that thing at road speed through pedestrian areas, and highway speeds elsewhere, all while not wearing protective clothing and being distracted by filming himself and talking to the camera. What a fucking tool. I hope he sees the error of his ways before he hurts someone.

Right? I’ve had some expensive repairs on my (needlessly complex) city bike over the past 7 years, but even so TCoO can’t be more than €50 a year.
