The Ukrainian song they are mocking here was written by Volodymyr Ivasyuk, who was found hanged in 1979, in circumstances listed as suicide but were more likely a state killing by Soviet authorities clamping down on Ukrainian nationalist sentiment. twitter.com/JuliaDavisNews…

During a New Year's special on Russian state TV, they had the audacity to appropriate a Ukrainian song, "Chervona Ruta." The singer performing it was dressed as some kind of a madam.
