Book of brutalist archictecture postcards from the Soviet era

Here’s what the Robarts expansion will look like.

Habitat 67 (no. 2) is really gorgeous from just about any perspective or distance, and the views from the complex are beautiful too, but I pity the poor letter carrier who has it on their rounds, as it’s really labyrinthine, with some large, windswept common areas (and yet unlike most apartment complexes it does have mail delivery to each unit’s door, not a bank of mailboxes in a lobby).

It’s also one of those places that’s nice to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there. Weird location, very close to downtown yet road and transit access are poor and there are very few everyday amenities anywhere nearby. Basically, it would be tough going without a car. (Although that isn’t a direct criticism of the architecture, the location and design are closely connected so it’s not entirely irrelevant).

They’ve been offering guided tours for the last year or two. Well worthwhile. It’s in Montreal for anyone wondering.
