I taught at a small town rural high school and one time the school resource officer found a gun in a kid’s car. But because it was an “honest mistake” by a “good kid” during hunting season, the kid was not disciplined (or at most detention, which was a joke). When I sent a kid (who I wrote up almost every day for various assholery–but who the admin considered a “good” kid from a “good family”) to the office for giving a Nazi salute in class, he was sent back to class and I was told to ignore him. But a bullied outcast squirting mustard on one of his tormentors in the lunch line? In school suspension!
