I talked to a Canadian once about my fond memories of visiting Niagara Falls, and they pointed out pretty much all the scary stuff is on the US side, the Canadian owned part is basically a tollbooth. The implication was similar to your sentiment.
Also frankly if you feel a need to flee the USA, I worry Canada is not far enough…
