But i would be concerned about predators or the cat getting spooked and running into the wild. I would keep them leashed at all times for safety.

Also, the cat is a predator too, so it’s not just the cat’s safety that you need to worry about. Even with that weight loss the cat must’ve eaten at least a few wild critters during its 900 mile journey.
