When the bf was trying to cut down on smoking, I bought an e-cig kit and had to learn some basics. It’s actually kind of wacky right now, because the vaping thing is so new that technology is moving super fast. In a year, most of the stuff out there will probably seem antiquated. But right now there’s essentially three types:
- minis, or “cig-a-likes”. These are the ones that look like cigarettes that you can buy at 7-11, pre-filled with juice and disposable, or reusable models that are rechargeable. Refilling is usually with little prefilled cartridges you put inside.
- vape pens / “eGo”. These are the bigger ones about the size of a pennywhistle, usually with a transparent area in the middle (the cartomizer or ‘clearomizer’ tank that holds the juice). Refilling is done by dripping the nicotine juice into the tank, which is kind of messy.
- “mods”/APVs. These are the ones the size of a small flashlight or a little box. They’re much more advanced and put out clouds of smoke for the hard core vape dudes.
