there’s been a bunch of stories about how anxiety and depression can drive social media use, so… maybe?
( in google’s case, they’d have to derive relationship status from people’s online activity, and at least for me - google is also terrible at selecting ads, so i don’t feel like they’ve got much of a clue; in facebook’s case they know because people tell them: so possibly )
