Against my better judgement, I still occasionally look up how a trick’s done. I am almost always disappointed: it turns out to be… just a trick. (Which makes me ask myself: what was I expecting?) This is a good example. I don’t see that as taking anything away from magicians, whose job consists in large part of making a very simple mechanical trick seem miraculous.
