Die NSA ist mein Eckermann

Biermann is also one of those who turned quite conservative in old age. He voiced his approval of both the war against Serbia and the war against Iraq. One might even think he turned senile because he was of the opinion that the war against Iraq could have been avoided if Germany and France would have agreed to partake in the coalition against Saddam Hussein.

In hindsight he was most relevant and most passionate when voicing anti-communist sentiments.

Please note: I am not trying to say that he was not right to insist on freedoms under communism, just that life under capitalism seemed to be much more agreeable to him. He didn’t really criticise it as much as he did communism. To me this puts his moral and political authority into question.
