Elementary school apologizes after children of color were asked by peers to role-play as slaves for lesson

A full day! I’m sure that will fix everything.

I thought the OP was saying the kids themselves came up with skits and assigned the roles. So potentially there could have been useful learning if the teacher had asked why they gave those roles to those particular pupils.

It probably is an unwise choice to combine this subject material with with this kind of creative exercise, at least for 5th graders. But then again, I don’t know how you could earnestly discuss race with a mixed class of American kids without at least some of them finding it upsetting.

Yeah, I certainly don’t miss it, and times have changed dramatically for the worse.

Anyway, just made this account to say hello, I’m closing it now.

Okay, then.

Take care.

Honestly, I was so pissed that it was happening, and almost getting into fights with overzealous wristband enforcers that I honestly paid little attention to the details.
