That would be part of the incentive to get a derated unit. You don’t want to take a seam-ripper to a multiple-thousands-of-dollars piece of hardware; but if you aren’t worried about that, it’d be relatively easy to strip out much of the weight and replace it with slightly stiffened textile bulking materials, which are much lighter. Still wouldn’t be a comfort and a joy; but far easier than the real thing.
