If I use it, it’s the “numnuts” version, and if I think about it at all, which I usually don’t, it’s probably the “numbskull” origin. But I prefer “dipshit”. I like the assonance and vulgarity, but I’m happy for any non-gendered insult I can throw at the myriad stupid drivers around me with impunity.
