i have heard both, but i think if i ever use/used it, i would tend to the plural version. i got it from one of my uncles, who said it as a way to avoid swearing around us kids, haha. i thought it always meant someone frozen and speechless, like you would be if you were kneed in the nuts, making them, you know… numb.
