Indeed, I suspect their “service” will consist of playing a few shows at barracks and riding around in trucks. Maybe fire a couple of guns for photo ops. It would have been bad optics for them to try and get out of it, so I think they did the right thing by appearing to do their civic duty.
Every country with mandatory service has… shall we say…varying levels of “service”. A wealthy Jewish acquaintance of mine went off to do her service in Israel and it was pretty much an 8 month beach party, with some selfies taken with big guns. She sure as heck wasn’t doing any boot camp or learning Krav Maga.
