Nice strawman attempt, everyone is well aware that it’s not a literal binary, most everyone else (aside from you it appears, who has trouble reading a dictionary properly) is also aware that it’s not a literal spectrum either, so if we are going to use one of the two terms figuratively it makes sense to use the one which most closely matches the reality, which is clearly the binary, this isn’t very complicated.
You quite literally claimed it was a binary, hence “not a spectrum”. It’s
up there for all to read, remember? And you just did the same thing right
here. Yes, it IS a “spectrum”, or “range”, or whatever synonym you care to
use, no matter how you thrash and squirm, no matter how “clumpy” the
results, and I provided you the definitions that show that fact, with
further illustration when you failed to noticed the proper line.
Care to try again?
No I didn’t, re-read my other posts in this thread where I explicitly state otherwise. My very first post in the thread referred to the “edge cases of biological sex”, so obviously I wasn’t talking about a literal binary from the beginning. I called it a binary, in a figurative sense, several times, it’s clearly not the same thing. I just used in the figurative sense at the end of my previous reply as well, so no, I didn’t “just do it again” (hint: the word ‘binary’ in that sentence refers to the ‘two terms figuratively’ at the start of the sentence). Your problem with reading comprehension isn’t limited to dictionaries it appears.
You can choose to use a figurative reading of ‘spectrum’ if you like, doesn’t make it apt or better suited than the far more apt ‘figurative binary’ I’ve been using, all it does it help paint an inaccurate picture of human sex variability.
I provided you the definitions that show that fact
You did nothing of the sort. Is English your first language? Genuine question.
There’s nothing “figurative” about using the word “spectrum” as defined,
argue otherwise as you like. You’re spinning your wheels here.
Yes there is, read those dictionary definitions again, slowly this time, pay close attention to the words ‘continuous’ and ‘range’, read the definitions of those words too if you’re still confused.
Nope, sorry, I did. I even gave you the exact subdefinition to refer to.
Try again? DO let us all know when you’re tired of this failed nitpick of
yours =).
Instead of being antagonistic, you could have brought us interesting journal articles.
