The Government routinely monitored tranactions of $10,000 or more. Fines for serious offenses used to be about $10,000, too, cementing that amount as a “shitload of money”. Recently, Congress stated updating those fines to $100,000 dollars, but didn’t update the money laundering standards. I’m miffed.
