Fast food executive complains that social media inflates young people's "self-importance," killing their willingness to work for free

That guy is in the wrong business. Sounds like he wants to run a NFP charity with volunteers. Something like building homes for the needy, maybe running a charity where you fix up peoples houses with small home repairs, volunteer grass mowing for old people, or teach car repair, etc. There maybe he could merge this idea of free work in exchange for experience and funded (partially) by the government.
