I’m thinking even beloved anthem singers’ primary function is to build atmosphere, not to sing well. They usually send me scrambling for the mute button. (Most of my exposure to such things comes from hockey.)

Some consider Lyndon Slewidge one of the very best, maybe because he doesn’t try to pretend national anthems are anything other than military marches:
