Firefox tracking protection sped up web browsing up to 44% in test

The way I see it, the internet is a world-wide brothel. And going without addons like adblock and noscript is pretty much fucking every whore in the world bareback. It’s just stupid and irresponsible not only to yourself but also the other machines you’re connecting to.

I went to Ghostery’s website on my work computer and it immediately gave an option to download for IE.

I don’t know the reasoning as to why, but enabling this feature has apparently fixed several performance issues I was having with online video through firefox.

Cheers!

I use the same, but with an added condom. Wrap the whole browser in a sandbox. I use Sandboxie. The free version has a 3 second count-in window, but other than that, works perfectly.

Sandboxie also serves nicely if you’re running apps from various shady locations (keygens and cracks, for example… I heard from a friend)

Adblock is ok, i’m using it too, but i don’t know about ghostery and noscript. Ghostery is that extension that kills idle tabs? I didn’t try this thing with tracking protection, i don’t know how it will handle cookies which i need for login.

Ghostery doesn’t kill idle tabs. It’s pretty much a cookie blacklist, combined with element hiding for social media. You can choose which ad network’s cookies and social media widgets you want to see in the options.

NoScript is a Java+Javascript+Flash whitelisting system that also detects XSS. Basically, it starts out with all scripted elements and domains blocked, and you spend a week or two picking through each website’s list of domains that it pulls in and either allow them, or put them in the explicit blacklist yourself.

NoScript is very enlightening, when you go to, eg Slashdot and see there’s about 4 adnetworks’ domains blocked. Or go over to github and you see that even they host Quantserve trackers out to all their visitors.

NoScript + Adblock + self-destructing cookies works so well, I’ve dropped Ghostery altogether.
