He was a child prodigy. I remember a great interview with Chuck D, who was remembering what it was like trying to get Public Enemy signed to a major label. They were interested, but most were floating the idea of Flav being kicked out of the band before they signed. Chuck said, “We can’t kick him out. He’s the only one in the band who knows anything about music.”
