At the dockside restaurants in Freemantle, Western Australia, they have thin wires running from the rooftops to the walkway edge, spaced about 0.5 m (2.5 ft) apart. It creates a kind of outline of an invisible lean-to roof, and is a flight hazard to seagulls. They can’t effectively swoop / dive / peck at you. Instead, they’ll land on the deck edge and walk up to you and harass you verbally, but you can tell them to bugger off.
