Fascistnating - if you go to the original toot and look at the alt-text for the prompt it says “cowboy hat” and never mentions maga, red baseball cap or similar. It both shows bias in the model (associating cowboys automatically with alt-right) and the effectiveness of the rightwing campaign to associate themselves with cowboy tropes and imagery (not the black or brown ones that did most of the work though - the white guys playing make believe in movies)

Somehow he’s an billionaire

Makes sense. He has made himself into one man moderation department. I am not sure how he can inevitably come to the conclusion that it is all fine without first examining all of it personally /s

I don’t know if I can attribute this to malice. Twitter couldn’t even always handle changing too many of the “Content you see” settings prior to the deal closing.

@hmans A weird little thing: for some reason, my account had @bestofdyingtwit set to muted. I never muted the account. @kakapojayne This happened to me! I thought I was going nuts!

I honestly have no idea how twitter works behind the scenes, but why would user settings for a specific acct get changed under any normal circumstances? I assume that twitter has better way of managing what is displayed in people feeds, so it doesn’t even make sense for them to change settings instead of changing “The Algorithm”.

Oh, unless no one that is left at twitter actually worked on and understood “The Algorithm” and this is someone’s desperate attempt to kludge a way of meeting a requirement of “reduce the visibility of criticism by Friday or you are fired”

Narrator: It was that

I’m not ruling it out, but also with so many key people gone I think that there’s the possibility the mute and block lists are breaking. I remember finding an account in my mute list once which I never intended to put there, but that was perhaps a year ago. Maybe there will be more reports.

I forget - how easy is it to mute someone on twitter? I constantly accidentally click things on my phone while scrolling, which has resulted in similar things.

But, you are probably right that it is just a glitch that has been around for a while, and possibly getting worse as the system rot sets in. It would be interesting to know if there is a pattern to the accounts being muted (like antimusk/twitter criticism, etc). But the only way we could get that data is from twitter and they are, I assume, too busy dealing with the fallout from Elon asking everyone to sending him child porn.

Tesla Inc. is making its controversial driver-assistance system available to customers previously deemed not safe enough behind the wheel to test it out.

Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk tweeted that the system Tesla calls Full Self-Driving Beta is now available to anyone in North America who’s bought the option and requests it from their car screen.

It requires a confirmation after you select it, at least on the official app and in a browser.

I wonder how much of The Algorithm was based on Mechanical Turks? (i.e. human moderators.)

If so, gone now.

Next week, check to see if /logout takes you anywhere interesting on their domain. When I started (three years into the site), the logout button took you to that URL and I reported a user account squatting on it. Someone still has /logoff.

Until I took a real close look – and this is too on-the-nose based on previous conversations on this thread – I could have sworn he was dressed as Ozymandias.
