Fuck Today (Part 1)

While I don’t want to discount how much the situation sucks, if he has to lose an eye, he’ll likely be just fine. Animals are amazing at adapting to things like this.

I’ve known animals that have lost one or both eyes, legs, or gone deaf and they learn to adapt. It’s much harder on us than them it seems.

As always, best wishes to you both.

Was buying some groceries, and happened to see the cover of the nationalInquirer. Disgusting.

Holy.
Toledo.
I was just singing this song of his today, as I drove into Austin.
He saw it all coming.
All of it.

Democracy

by Leonard Cohen

It’s coming through a hole in the air
From those nights in Tiananmen Square
It’s coming from the feel
That this ain’t exactly real
Or it’s real, but it ain’t exactly there
From the wars against disorder
From the sirens night and day
From the fires of the homeless
From the ashes of the gay
Democracy is coming to the USA
It’s coming through a crack in the wall
On a visionary flood of alcohol
From the staggering account
Of the Sermon on the Mount
Which I don’t pretend to understand at all
It’s coming from the silence
On the dock of the bay,
From the brave, the bold, the battered
Heart of Chevrolet
Democracy is coming to the USA
It’s coming from the sorrow in the street
The holy places where the races meet
From the homicidal bitchin’
That goes down in every kitchen
To determine who will serve and who will eat
From the wells of disappointment
Where the women kneel to pray
For the grace of God in the desert here
And the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the USA

Sail on, sail on
Oh mighty ship of State
To the shores of need
Past the reefs of greed
Through the Squalls of hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on
It’s coming to America first
The cradle of the best and of the worst
It’s here they got the range
And the machinery for change
And it’s here they got the spiritual thirst
It’s here the family’s broken
And it’s here the lonely say
That the heart has got to open
In a fundamental way
Democracy is coming to the USA

It’s coming from the women and the men
Oh baby, we’ll be making love again
We’ll be going down so deep
The river’s going to weep,
And the mountain’s going to shout Amen
It’s coming like the tidal flood
Beneath the lunar sway
Imperial, mysterious
In amorous array
Democracy is coming to the USA

Sail on, sail on
O mighty ship of State
To the shores of need
Past the reefs of greed
Through the squalls of hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on

I’m sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can’t stand the scene
And I’m neither left or right
I’m just staying home tonight
Getting lost in that hopeless little screen
But I’m stubborn as those garbage bags
As time cannot decay
I’m junk but I’m still holding up this little wild bouquet
Democracy is coming to the USA
To the USA

There is a crack in everything.
That’s how the light gets in.

RIP Leonard Cohen.
A candle has gone out.
It’s darker now without you here.
We here will learn to make our own light.
Thanks for the truly great songs you gave us.
Something to sing while I’m looking for the matchbox.

Fuck these anarchists shitheads. Fuck the people who would infiltrate a movement for their own means: pure and utter insanity. Fuck the way this is going to tear my city apart.

It made me think of Conan, discoursing on what is best in life.

There’s nothing wrong with anarchists.

These people are not anarchists. They are just assholes.

since yesterday I have a nasty cold. so far so bad.

but my body demands tea and is unhappy with coffee! the horror!

Oh I know how that feels. A suggestion…

This is not coffee.
It tastes sorta kinda like coffee. It’s different from Cafix, and Inka, and Postum.
It is ersatz coffee.
But it’s not as bad for the human body as coffee is:

This is ersatz coffee is actually pretty good for human bodies:

and does taste ok. Thin. But ok. I drink my coffee black. I have never tried putting cream in DandyBlend. I have tried Raja’s Cup too but it’s got a weird aftertaste. FWIW…

I say all this as a person who loves and drinks good cold brew coffee. I am fighting off the last parts of a very very bad cold. I am still coughing and wheezing. I am hoping to avoid pneumonia. Coffee is well known to be a vasoconstrictor, and my lungs need better (not reduced) blood circulation.

Get well soon, @renke!

ETA: I finally found a link to Raja’s Cup. It’s quite bitter. Like, more bitter than anything else I list in this comment.

Isn’t that more of a “Fuck 2016-2020”?

Yes, which means I’ll likely post that on a daily or at least weekly basis for the foreseeable future.

Please forgive if I’m being presumptuous, have you given regular exercise a chance? By regular, I mean 45 minutes of cardio four times (or more) a week? I also struggle with depression, and exercise had astonishing results for me. It took about five or six weeks, but once it happened, it was a veil lifting over the world for me. I don’t want to sound hyperbolic, but it was literally like a sunrise over a world previously buried in 24 hour darkness. Sorry if you’ve already tried this, just wanted to share my experience.

I’m just getting over a nasty cold that turned into ‘walking pneumonia’ (been sick for three weeks). Take good care of yourself if you can. Have you tried Gypsy Cold Care? Not sure where you are geographically, but this is available pretty much everywhere in the PacNW. It works wonders, for me at least, especially with cough, pressure/pain in the head, and body aches.

Exercise alone for clinical depression is like saying that eating healthy foods can cure cancer. It’s a nice additional component, but it’s not a replacement.

I didn’t say exercise alone, did I?

But your statement is a bad comparison, and not entirely accurate.

When I edited that after seeing your post I just switched “anarchists” out for “assholes” without thinking. It’s a good thing I decided to reread it before posting the edit:

Not exactly the message I was going for.
