Zimmerman called the gun a “piece of American history” and claimed the Smithsonian Institute expressed interest in acquiring it for their collection, an offer he declined because they were “going to use the gun in a fashion I did not feel comfortable with.”
The Smithsonian immediately released a statement denying Zimmerman’s claim. “At no time did we have any interest in George Zimmerman’s gun.”
