I don’t know exactly why or how it happens; but some people seem to cross the line from willingness to consider the possible necessity of defensive violence(sometimes paranoid, sometimes justified, and we certainly need some people doing it since assorted menaces are frequently overstated; but quite real); and go straight to fantasizing about the glorious moment when some perp makes their day, the confining social norms regarding lethal violence fall away, and they finally get to score some kills. Zimmerman really seems to have been flirting with the latter position.
So long as I can mostly wash my hands of violence because I live in a pretty safe area and have professionals(incidentally, am I correct in remembering that you are one of the ones who ensures that the various containerized goods I consume make it from Point A to Point B unscathed?) to handle the various applications of violence that are involved in maintaining me and my lifestyle, I can’t really fault the people in the first group; but the violence nerds in the second group? Creepy as hell.
