One of my non-official mentors at work was a rather small, dapper, entertainingly offbeat mechanical engineer… originally from Malta. His early education and engineering influences came via the British Navy which — per his own account — explained his excellent drafting skills. All his reports and instructions were beautifully hand-written (small print) and drawn. His schematics were confined to 8.5 x 11 paper, and when, for example, he showed a pump, he drew the pump (not the symbol for it), very small and exquisite. You could say his skills matched my description of him!
