It helped with the printing on heavy paper. Without that setting, the toner barely held on and could be just blown off or wiped away with a gentle brush. With the setting, the toner was fused, but not very strongly and could be scratched off with a fingernail. I just assumed that 130lb card stock was outside of what I could expect to print on my $49 printer.
