One elephant in the room is that how long humans live only matters so much because humans are programmed to assume that it does. Hardly anyone seems willing to seriously question apparent self-serving bias and survival instinct themselves from first principles. It is fine to understand how ageing and death work. But I think that the probably easier parallel work needs to be undertaken to deal with the cognitive flaw of assuming that what happens to one’s own subjective sense-of-self somehow matters more than that of anyone else.
