I’ve barely had any dark cola since 6th grade in the 1977/78 school year. I had a female health studies teacher (that I was incidentally crushing on) who told the class that she loved coca-cola. It was the best thing she could find to clean the engine components in her 250cc Honda motorcycle 
I later learned she really was a gear head and could tear down and rebuild almost any engine!
